We honor Steve Yvaska for his generous community service, which was inspired by his love of history and his passion for antiques and collectibles.
Steve passed away October 1st after battling Multiple System Atrophy, a degenerative disease for which there is currently no cure.
Steve was a beloved figure at the San Jose Mercury News, where he started his career in finance and went on to manage the newsroom. His Home and Garden magazine column, “The Seasoned Collector,” ran for 24 years. He also taught classes on antiques and collectibles through San Jose Parks and Recreation.
Steve shared his expertise and provided free verbal appraisals of antiques as a guest of the Morgan Hill Historical Society at Villa Mira Monte―a favorite community event that drew an enthusiastic crowd.
